What a stunning recognition for a work that pulses with quiet intensity and deep resonance. Heart Lamp feels like a reminder that literature, at its most powerful, listens more than it speaks—holding space for grief, memory, and the sacred rhythm of survival. Congratulations to the entire team behind this luminous translation.
Great news for & Other Stories . . . the press is becoming more known and appreciated. A victory for the non-corporate world, for translations, for those who understand that great stories and great storytelling appear in far-flung places.
[And I should mention that & Other Stories had two books on this year's Longlist.]
If betting on a winner for this years Booker was a sport, I'd have won BIG! I'm over the moon about Heart Lamp's win. This is something at the top of my TBR wishlist. I know that this book and the stories contained within are calling me.
This books winning makes me so happy. I haven't read it yet. But will now. Translated works getting the appreciation they deserve is so amazing. The fact that it's a Kannada book makes me proud.

So happy for them!
OK. Bit is it any good or is the award more virtue signaling by literati?

How about an identifier (i.e., left, right) for author/translator? Not that it matters, but I like to picture the writer writing!
Author on the left, translator on the right
