Read leopard skin hat - I couldn’t put it down so sad and profoundly beautiful. I don’t speak French but I love that Mark Hutchinson does- he must be in totally sync with Anne Serre to capture this prose so out of this world! And now in the middle of The Eye of the Big Bird, my imagination is cracked open! How did Kawakami Bring this story on to the page. It is a mind blowing scary future! I mildly followed booker international before- but now I’m a devoted fan. Wow- what a feast of reading! I intend to visit some of the back list to broaden my knowledge of the literature of our crazy world!
Hey the date is getting close! I have now read Perfection and Small Boat. I loved reading both books will get to “on the calculation of volume…” this week. My vote for the winner at this time is Small Boat by V Delecroix. Again a brief read. The impact is clear that refugee/ migrant story is a painful crisis and the dilemma of the voice of the narrator is haunting. My pick as the winner! Just stopped me in my tracks.
Thank you indeed for the list …I remind myself here that this is one of the main reasons for Substack being an important ‘entity’ …for writers and artists….thanks.
Fabulous list! 👏🎉🎊So happy for Heart 🪔 & Under the Eye of the Big Bird 🐦 Wish Hunchback was on the shortlist though. Still, a great shortlist ❤️ Congratulations to all the shortlisted authors & the fantastic judges 🌸❤️🌸
I can't believe Hunchback isn't on the list! It's a book with a unique perspective, snappy, well-written - which is surely the point of outstanding work of fiction.

I recently bought Perfection after it was recommended on the Tea or Books? Podcast. I will move it to the top of my TBR list now.
